dynattenik DeStatiX-A9 See every RS232 signal — not just TX and RX

An ordinary USB-to-serial adapter lights up when data moves, and that is all it tells you. When the link fails, the cause is usually a handshake line — CTS, RTS, DTR, DSR, DCD or RI — and a two-LED adapter shows you none of them. DeStatiX-A9 puts an LED on all nine DB9 signals, so you can see which line is wrong at a glance instead of measuring pins one at a time with a multimeter.

  • All 9 lines visible, not just 2
  • No multimeter or scope needed
  • Up to 921.6 Kbps, RTS/CTS flow control
  • FTDI drivers: Windows, macOS, Linux

Every other adapter gives you two LEDs

One lights when data goes out, one when it comes in. That is the whole story a standard USB-to-serial adapter can tell you — and it is not the part that usually breaks.

What two LEDs cannot tell you

  • Whether CTS, RTS, DTR, DSR, DCD or RI is being driven high or low right now
  • Whether the target board is driving its handshake signals at all
  • Whether the handshake timing is correct once the target powers up

What nine LEDs let you check, in order

  1. Power: the adapter is bus-powered — DTR and RTS flash once as it enumerates on USB.
  2. Data: TXD and RXD blinking means bytes are moving.
  3. Handshake: RTS, CTS, DTR, DSR, DCD and RI show the level on every line — the most common cause of a dead serial link, and the one a two-LED adapter hides completely.

GND

Design tradeoff: GND is the reference ground, so it sits at 0 V and its LED never lights. That is a pin-out reference, not a fault — and it gives you an unlit baseline, so every other LED reads as high when lit and low when dark.

Solid adapter, with a rarely-seen bonus

“…this model has a seldom-seen feature that is a great aid, namely, the LED indicators built-in to the cable that give a comprehensive view of the status of all 9 data lines.”

Why the DeStatiX-A9

Engineered for stable, diagnosable serial links

Every design choice targets the realities of legacy RS232 work: unknown wiring, flaky handshakes, static discharge and drivers that must simply work.

FTDI FT232RL chipset

Industry-standard USB-to-serial conversion for industrial automation, manufacturing equipment, testing systems and data acquisition.

9 LED signal monitoring

Track TXD, RXD, RTS, CTS, DSR, DTR, RI, CD and power at a glance. Verify wiring and confirm transmission without extra software.

ESD & surge resilience

Integrated protection to 8kV–15kV per IEC 61000-4-2 helps guard connected equipment against electrostatic discharge and voltage spikes.

Full serial parameters

300–921.6 Kbps baud rates, selectable parity (None/Odd/Even/Mark/Space), 7 or 8 data bits and 1 or 2 stop bits.

Hardware flow control

RTS/CTS handshake signalling for equipment that requires it, backed by 256-byte receive and 128-byte transmit buffers.

Integration support

dynattenik assists with driver installation, setup and troubleshooting across integration projects and legacy RS232 rollouts.

Where it fits

Where seeing the handshake saves the most time

Production fixtures, bench debugging and the classroom — anywhere a serial port has to be proven working rather than assumed working.

Industrial automation

PLC programming, HMI configuration and controller commissioning.

Data acquisition

Logging from instruments, meters and sensors that speak RS-232.

Legacy equipment

Keep CNC machines, POS terminals and lab analysers in service.

Test & measurement

Bench setups and production test rigs needing repeatable serial links.

Production line fixtures

Checking a freshly soldered serial port needs no scope or meter: an operator reads the LEDs and sees whether the interface is alive. FTDI's VCP drivers ship with Windows, macOS and Linux, so the same rig works at any site.

Teaching and labs

All nine signals in front of the class, so DTR/DSR and RTS/CTS stop being abstract and become something a student can watch happen. The unlit GND is the reference for what a low level looks like.

What it is

What you are buying

The short answers, in the terms the part is usually searched for.

What is a dynattenik FTDI USB RS232 adapter?

A single-port converter that bridges a modern USB port to legacy RS232 serial equipment. The DeStatiX-A9 is built on the FTDI FT232RL chipset, ends in a DB9 male connector, and adds nine status LEDs so you can watch TXD, RXD and the handshake lines without a breakout box or a scope.

Which systems work with the dynattenik FTDI adapter?

Windows 11, macOS 15 and Linux. Windows and macOS use the FTDI virtual COM port driver; mainstream Linux distributions carry FTDI support in-tree, so the port appears on plug-in with no driver to install.

What can I connect to the dynattenik FTDI USB adapter?

Anything that speaks RS232: PLCs and industrial controllers, CNC machines, point-of-sale terminals and receipt printers, laboratory and medical instruments, switch and router console ports, GPS receivers and older diagnostic kit.

Does the dynattenik FTDI RS232 adapter need a power supply?

No. It is USB bus-powered and takes what it needs from the host port, so there is no brick and no extra cable — which is the point when you are commissioning on site.

Is the dynattenik USB RS232 adapter tough enough for industrial use?

It carries ESD protection rated 8kV–15kV per IEC 61000-4-2, uses a DB9 connector that screws down so vibration cannot work it loose, and drives true RS232 signal levels rather than TTL. The nine LEDs exist because a link that has failed silently is the hardest kind to diagnose.
