Built OK, functions well
“This RS232 adapter stands our from most other adapters on the market because it
combines utility and convenience. In terms of utility, this adapter implements full
RS232 (DB9) port conversion, not just RX and TX lines. It also has LEDs for convenient
monitoring of communications, including the bizarre "GND" LED, the informative
function of which makes exactly zero sense.”
“The arrangement of LEDs corresponds to the pinout of the male (DTE) connector,
albeit mirrored. You can interpret it as looking into the male connector from the wire
(solder) side.”
“Additionally, the adapter has ESD protection measures, which is important when
connecting larger industrial devices to a computer.”
“Functionality-wise, the adapter works well. All modern OS will recognize FTDI's
FT232RL chip using built-in drivers, no software installation necessary. Internally, for
the RS232 drivers, the adapter uses Sipex's higher-end SP3243EU chip that supports
transfer rates up to 1Mbps and fully complies with RS232 voltage standards.”
“I like this product a lot, but I have to deduct one star for the flimsy case and
average soldering job.”

Better Options if Using with Tech 2
“I already own a Sabrent USB to serial port connector for use between
Windows XP sp 3 and my Tech 2.”
“This particular DeStatix A9 uses a different chip (the FTDI model) than
the Sabrent and I wanted to compare their performance as these devices can get
flaky.”
“The FTDI chip is recommended as a known working chip on
tech2wiki.”
“The product itself is well made, has indicator lights, and provides
static discharge protection that the Sabrent does not have.”
“I initially tried to install the drivers from the website listed in the
instructions. Without success. I have attached a screen shot of the website
and program I used to install drivers that work.”
“I next hooked the converter to my Tech 2 and was able to eventually
connect to the Tis2000 software. However, the connection often has to be made
multiple times, the Tech 2 restarted, or the computer rebooted.”
“I performed a back to back test with the much less expensive Sabrent
converter and it won hands down. The connection was more reliable and usually
connected the first time.”
“The DeStatix may work just fine with other equipment. It does offer
additional protection that may be helpful for certain connections. Installing
the drivers was a pain, the price is fairly high, and I don't recommend it for
use with a Tech 2.”
“It may be a 5 star product for a different application, but for my

The nicest USB->Serial converter I have, the activity lights are great
“Fitz (practical): This is a solid USB-to-serial adapter. The FTDI
chipset works well, and the best part is the status LEDs — you can actually
see if data is moving instead of staring at a blank terminal wondering if it's
dead. That alone makes it worth having in the toolkit.”
“Lupa (gonzo): When I worked in a repair shop, at least once a month
someone tried to jam a serial cable into a VGA port or vice versa. This
adapter won't save them from that fate, but it will save you from the madness
of invisible comms. Watching the lights flicker is like Morse code from the
machine realm: proof there's still life on the other end.”
“Together: It's not flashy, but it's reliable. And if you've ever spent
an afternoon debugging phantom connections, you'll understand why a few
blinking LEDs can feel like salvation.”
“Sure, it's a little more, but it's got extra features, it's higher

Nice adapter, works well, quality components
“Nice to find something that's using an actual FTDI chip inside. We
commonly use these at work for talking to equipment, and some of the cheap ones have

“It's nice to have all the diagnostic lights, although all I really look at
is the TX and RX; the rest don't really apply to my needs. I was working on a new
design that uses RS-422, and the converter I had plugged right onto the cable worked
great.”
“The case seems pretty sturdy. I did try to pop it apart but didn't get very
far. I didn't want to ruin it, so I left it alone. The cable end is nice and strong
with a good mold, looking like a quality device.”
“I did find that their website did not have Windows 11 drivers (or maybe I

Works well, great value
“…Back in the day of dial-up modems, unbuffered UARTs, and polled I/O
(vs. interrupt driven I/O), RS-232 communications required all of these handshake
signals to ensure that no data was lost.”
“Anyway, I like the flashing lights, because they show when the data is
moving, and perhaps why it isn't.”
“I ran this thing at 300 baud, and 1M baud and it worked great, which I
can't say the same about the peer to which I had it connected (which has a pl2303
chip instead of an FTDI chip). (The peer transmitted fine at 1M baud, but it
scrambled the data it received.)”
“…I recommend only downloading the driver if your OS doesn't already
have it, and then, only from the FTDI URL.”
“I did not open the plastic case or investigate the line driver circuit
properties, but I saw that some other reviewers did, and they raised some
legitimate concerns about the quality of the soldering and the lack of claimed
optical isolation. As far as the second issue goes, given that this is from a
Chinese manufacturer, they may have poorly translated the information about the
ESD protection diodes, as somehow providing optical isolation, but this shouldn't
matter much unless you intend to use this in some sort of industrial control
environment.”
“I think this product is well worth the (sub $23) price (at time of review).
If you need optical isolation, try B&B Electronics. You'll find similar products
that provide optical isolation, priced between $150 and $350.”

This is the cable you want
“This adapter distinguishes itself primarily through comprehensive LED
indicators for all nine RS-232 signals (TXD, RXD, DTR, DSR, RTS, CTS, DCD, RI, and
GND reference). While most modern applications utilize only TXD/RXD, these visual
status indicators prove invaluable for troubleshooting connection establishment and
data flow issues particularly when interfacing with legacy equipment or debugging
embedded systems.”
“The FTDI chipset delivers reliable operation across the full baud rate
spectrum with automatic driver support. Connection stability is excellent with no
signal dropouts or intermittent disconnections during sustained use. If driver
installation proves necessary, obtain it directly from FTDI, as other reviewers have
noted.”
“Physical construction is adequate for benchtop applications and routine field
use. Connectors seat securely, though the housing offers minimal shielding against
electrical noise. For industrial control environments requiring galvanic isolation,
consider purpose-built optoisolated adapters (B&B Electronics manufactures suitable
alternatives at $150-350). The "optical isolation" claim in product
literature likely reflects mistranslation of ESD protection features.”
“I've spent just as much on 'dumb' RS232 to USB-A cables. I'd take this one
every time; even when you don't need the LED diagnostics there's no reason not to have
them available. The FTDI chipset alone justifies selection over cheaper alternatives
employing less-supported ICs.”

Great for my needs
“I don't often need to communicate to serial RS-232 but it does still

as long as I'm ever likely to still need it. I do like the data pin LEDs on
the shell. Sometimes it's not clear with certain software when a command
actually gets sent, and the LEDs can be useful to confirm TX and RX signal
timing. I tested it on a Dell switch in my home network and an old Panasonic
projector using PuTTY, and the adapter does exactly what it's supposed to

Worked as it should
“This review is for the dynattenik DeStatiX A9 USB to RS-232 Serial
Adapter. The purpose of this device is to connect your computer to a legacy
device that uses a 9 pin serial connector interface. RS-232 serial connections
can be used for various things like system control or data logging used in
various old legacy pieces of equipment. I have used it for solar inverter data
logging, weather station data collection and internet dissemination and Circa
2000 telescope control. The DeStatix cable's USB-A plug was inserted into my
older Dell laptop and very quickly was indentified as a serial Com port. The
drivers were automatically installed indicating the internal control chip was
made by FTDI, which is one of the main manufacturers and is known to be very
stable. Also incorporated into the cable, which is pretty uncommon for a
product like this, are 9 tiny LED lights that turn on and off when these data
lines are being used. They are not technically necessary but are nice when
troubleshooting to see if data is being sent or received.”
“This cable provides ESD protection, voltage surge protection and is
optically isolated so protects both your computer and serial device from
possible damage. It can handle baud rates from 300 to 921.6 kbps. I tried it
between my raspberry pi and my 2005 Davis weather station and was able to put
my weather data to an online weather database without any issues. It worked
equally well between my Dell laptop and 2001 Celestron Nexstar GPS 11. I then
tried it between the telescope and a wireless transmitter/receiver which gave
control to my ipad, and everything worked just as it should.”
“It really is a necessity to control legacy equipment containing an
RS-232 serial port with today's modern computers that have long since given up

Einsatzszenarien in IT- und Industrietechnik.”

su apparati professionali o in ambienti industriali.”
router.”

Ottimo cavo USB A - Seriale

sui veicoli.”
“Lo consiglio vivamente”
